Plastic surgery of the auricles (otoplastic)

![]() |
The "flyaway" auricles are quite often a congenital handicap
that is mainly very unpleasant in the childhood, when the other children
can sour the life of the one with such a problem. But even to adults the
flyaway auricles do not add to the self-confidence. This handicap can
be one-sided as well as combined with different shapes and sizes of the
auricles.

The operation itself
The operation is done with local anaesthesia or in combination with intravenous
anaesthesia in certain cases. The surgery is done on the back side of
the auricles in order for the scars to be as unnoticeable as possible.
The operation takes one hour. A compression bandage is applied after the
surgery.

Pre-surgical period

Post-surgical period
| The bandage redressing follows on the second day after the
operation. First 2 days after the operation the auricles hurt, but the pain
is relieved with the common analgesics and gradually decreases. The bandage is kept on the auricles for a period of 10 days. Even after taking off the bandage one must be careful and protect the auricles from injury, do not play team sports for a period of one month after the operation and at night protect the auricles with elastic bandage. One month after the operation the spot is well healed. |

Operation risks
As with any other operations there is a possibility of bleeding and infection.
We can reduce the risks of such events to the minimum by eliminating the
circumstances that cause them. The scars' quality depends on the individual
healing process.
